Replacement of Bolton Road Bridge - Vernon, CT
Cardinal Engineering Associates is currently providing construction contract administration and resident engineering services for the replacement of Bolton Road Bridge (Bridge No. 03933) over the Tankerhoosen River in the town of Vernon, Connecticut. This project is being funded under the State Local Bridge program.
This project involved the replacement of an existing stone masonry arch structure with a 24ft by 6ft. precast concrete arch structure. Stone masonry facing will be installed on the facing of the concrete spandrel walls and parapet and approach walls.
Construction included the installation of permanent sheet piling to provide scour protection. Abutment footings, u-walls, and spandrel walls were constructed of cast-in-place reinforced concrete.
Construction took place in an environmentally sensitive area within the Belden Nature Preserve. Special precautions were required during construction to minimize environmental impacts including protection of several endangered species present in the area. Construction is scheduled for completion in 2007.
