Pump Station Design - Cromwell, CT

Shunpike Road Pump Station

The Town of Cromwel's Sewer Commission had a strong interest in attracting industrial development in a section of the town where sewer service was unavailable. Sewering this area depended upon constructing a trunk sewer which was unfeasible at the time. A temporary solution of constructing a pumping station and using the reserve capacity of an existing and under-utilized sewer line was devised.

The pumping station now has a capacity of 0.7 mgd with a 8" force main, 3,500 feet long. Four thousand linear feet of gravity lines offer sewer service to the area.

Pasco Hill Road Pump Station

Our firm was retained by the Town of Cromwell to design the extension of sanitary sewers to open up a 600-acre area in the northwest corner of the town with a projected population of approximately 2,000 people.

This project included the design of two pump stations on Pasco Hill Road. Each station has a dry pump station with dual 400 gpm, self-priming pumps. The pumps are housed in a prefabricated, above-ground structure for easing maintenance. Each pump station has 1,500 linear feet of 6" force main. The station is equipped with a stand-by generator for emergency power.
