Inflow & Infiltration Study - Torrington, CT
East Main and New Harwinton Service Areas
In 1988 the City of Torrington selected Cardinal Engineering to perform an I/I and SSES study of the East Main Street and New Harwinton Road Pump Station service areas. These two service areas cover an area of 3.3 square miles and include 40 miles of sanitary sewers.
Phase I Infiltration/Inflow Study
Phase I included the continuous flow monitoring of ten separate sub-basins. Based on the data gathered during flow monitoring and estimates of anticipated wastewater production, yearly infiltration and inflow were estimated for each sub-basin and a cost effective analysis will be done to determine which sub-basins have excessive I/I.
Phase II Sewer System Evaluation Survey
In this phase, flow isolation, smoke testing and internal closed circuit television inspection of sewers will be carried out in sub-basins with excessive I/I to pinpoint the sources of I/I. A cost effective analysis was done to determine which pipe segments should be rehabilitated. Based on the findings of the SSES and an evaluation of various rehabilitation alternatives, a plan for rehabilitation was developed.
The Phase I and Phase II Reports were approved by the State of Connecticut DEP in March 2005.
Phase III Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation
Cardinal Engineering will provide design, contract administration, and resident engineering services during Phase III.
Cardinal will assist the City in preparing a Grant and Loan Application and obtaining funding for this project from the State DEP
