Industrial Site Planning - Wallingford, CT
North Plains Industrial Road
Design of the main arterial road and all utilities required to develop a 240-acre industrial park in an area bounded by the Wilbur Cross Parkway, Connecticut Route 68 and the old Penn Central railroad.
The site was developed as a campus-style industrial park which is now the home of many large industrial
corporations.
Cardinal Engineering provided all survey and design services for the design of the 36-foot-wide, 8,000 linear-foot arterial road as well as 7,200 linear feet of 16-inch water main and sanitary sewers ranging in size from 8 inches to 24 inches in diameter. The road was designed for heavy traffic and low maintenance.
The project also included the design of four major cross-culverts to convey the runoff from a 2,000-acre drainage area that included a major stream.
This was a challenging site, being located within the Quinnipiac River floodplain with very flat grades, composed of outwash sands and a water table that was just below the ground surface.
The installation of 7,800 linear-feet of storm sewers ranging in size from 15 inches to 48 inches in diameter was also required.
Cardinal Engineering was also responsible for the administration of the project during the construction phase. A full-time Resident Engineer was assigned to the project during construction.
