Rehabilitation of Miller Street Pump Station
Rehabilitation of an existing 20,000 gpm storm water pumping station utilized by the City of Middletown to protect a low lying area in the north end of the central business district from flooding by the Connecticut River.
This project included testing and inspection of the existing vertical turbine propeller pumps, diesel engine, right angle drive, drive shaft and controls.
The design included replacement of the existing propeller pump and diesel motor, right angle drive and shaft, replacement of all pump and motor controls, upgrading of the electrical system to meet present building codes, installation of automatic louvers for ventilation, replacement of a leaky underground fuel storage tank and other mechanical improvements. To protect the pump station from flooding, a new level was added to the station and the motor room raised approximately 10 feet above the 50-year flood stage. Architectural improvements including exterior brick work and a new roof. Site improvements were also included.
