Replacement of Mill Street Bridge - Middletown, CT
This project included the replacement of an existing bridge found to be structurally and hydraulically inadequate. The existing single span concrete slab bridge was replaced with triple 8'x6' box culverts. The design included structural type studies, subsurface investigations, scour analysis, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, preparation of property taking maps and environmental permitting
As this bridge is located within a regulated floodway, water surface profiles and floodway analysis, utilizing HECRAS were required. Cardinal Engineering obtained a Flood Management Certification from the State Department of Environmental Protection as well as Army Corps of Engineers and Local Inland Wetland permits for this project.
This project is funded under the Federal Local Bridge Program and was designed in accordance with Connecticut DOT Metric design standards. Construction was administered by CTDOT. Records were maintained in accordance with standard CTDOT procedures. Testing of materials was carried out by the CTDOT.
