Pump Station Design - New Haven, CT

Barnes Avenue and Quinnipiac Avenue Pump Stations

The City of New Haven's Water Pollution Control Authority commissioned Cardinal Engineering, in 1993, to determine the most cost-effective manner to provide sewer service to seven sub-basins in the Cities of New Haven and East Haven. At the time, these cities had a total population of 15,000 people served by an aging collection system consisting of 24 miles of sanitary sewers and two pump stations. The two pump stations were in major need of repair, had inadequate capacity and did not allow the extension of service to other prime development areas.

This study included population estimates, development of design flows, the condition assessment and operational evaluation of existing pump stations, force mains and gravity sewers, the development of alternative design, preliminary design of two pump stations and selection of the most cost-effective plan based on economic analysis of each alternative.

Stone Street Pump Station

This project involved the design of a duplex wet pit pump station.
