Replacement of the Sawmill Road Bridge - Newtown, CT
This project consisted of the replacement of the Sawmill Road bridge, which was found to be structurally and hydraulically inadequate. The Sawmill Road carry's the Sawmill Road over the Pond Brook.
The drainage area for the Sawmill Road bridge is 1.7 square miles. TR20 analysis was utilized to compute design flows. The bridge was replaced with a triple 12'x6' reinforced concrete box culvert. The design included structural type studies, subsurface investigations, scour analysis, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis.
Design of the bridge was completed in 2007 and the construction was completed in 2009 at a construction cost of $650,000.
