Thrall Road Reconstruction - Vernon, CT

Thrall Road was included in the Town of Vernon's “2005 Roadway Reconstruction Program.”  Thrall road is located in a residential neighborhood between two arterial roads and is often utilized as a cut-through road.  Cardinal Engineering Associates provided traffic calming measures on this wide, high volume, and high speed road.

Cardinal performed traffic study and recommended the following traffic safety improvements:  To narrow the current two-lane road to a one-lane road and realign the roadway both horizontally and vertically to meet stopping and intersection sight distance requirements.  Safety improvements also included the installation of pedestrian ramps and crosswalk striping at all intersections.

Cardinal conducted a pavement analysis program to evaluate the condition of the pavement and to design a new pavement section. The existing pavement and base were reclaimed and reused as base for the new roadway. A new storm drainage system with underdrains was installed. Improvements were also made to the roadway cross section and longitudinal to improve pavement drainage and to eliminate street flooding.

Cardinal Engineering provided all engineering services for this project including survey, design, subsurface exploration, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, obtaining environmental permits, and the preparation of easement and taking maps.  Cardinal provided full time Resident Engineering services and Contract Administration services for this project.
